The Charm Of Undiscovered European Cities

Talinn City Break

Everyone's talking about it!

With inclusion into the European Union some less-well-known cities in Eastern Europe such as Vilnius in Lithuania, Riga in Latvia, Sofia in Bulgaria and others such as Budapest in Hungary have become much more accessible to visitors from all across Europe.

The best thing about these cities is that breaks are available at up to half the cost of the more traditional city break destinations in Europe. There are a world of things to be discovered and the great news is they can be done in comfort and style but at shoestring prices.

Here is our guide to some of these off the beaten track eastern cities - discover them for yourself before mass tourism takes over.

Riga

In the next few years until 2014, the capital city of Latvia will be making huge advances in terms of cultural and economic development, ready to welcome the swathes of excited tourists brought by the Capital of Culture followers.

Vilnius

Talinn

Off the beaten track doesn't necessarily mean just Eastern Europe by the way... the best of the rest:

Also not to be overlooked are the Nordic countries, what better place to go for a wintery break than the home of reindeer and Santa - Finland, Sweden and Norway.

Be advised that the temperatures outdoors in these places are very low especially the further north you go (brr) but if you wrap up warm you can have a whale of a time in the already established cities of Stockholm, Oslo, Tampere or some of the less well known cities in the region such as Turku - the European Capital of Culture in 2011 from Finland or Umea in Sweden which is to have the same honour in 2014.

We've found a great website if you're heading on a city break... Inyourpocket.com offers FREE downloadable city guides with every piece of information you should require to make the most of a European city break - from how to travel around to the best cultural/sporting events not to be missed while you're there, and it's all reliable and up to date info.!
