Spa Break checklist and expectations

Spa Holidays

There is nothing us girls, and boys love more than being relaxed and pampered. That is why at activitybreaks we offer weekend spa breaks to a wide range of destinations.  For those of you that are new to the spa experience we have put together what you should expect and a checklist so you don’t forget those essential flip flops.

There are many different types of spas and spa holidays from Health spa breaks to Thermal spa baths and wellbeing holidays. Most spa breaks will be home to swimming pools, Jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas and some thermal treatments.

Spa and beauty treatments

Regardless of the type of spa your go for, most spas offer both spa and beauty treatments. The difference between the two are that spa treatments are centred around water, massage and heat therapies while beauty treatments are centred around facial, hand and body experiences. Treatments will vary from spa to spa but typically spa treatments will include:

•    Acupuncture
•    Heat treatments
•    Massage
•    Reflexology

Typical beauty treatments include:

•    Facials
•    Manicures
•    Pedicures
•    Scrubs
•    Eye treatments

What to Pack?

The two most imports things to remember when packing for spa holidays, are to pack lightly and loosely. Use a small bag and pack to relax and not to impress. You should consider the climate and any dress codes of places you want to explore during your weekend retreat when packing your clothing.

What not to pack? Don’t bring the chaos of very day life to the spa so leave out multiple pairs of shoes, jewellery and valuables. If you are going to explore the destination surrounding the spa, be sure to only pack one good guide book. Some people pack towels, but these usually aren’t required as most spas will be able to provide them as well as robes and slippers, but always check.

Mobile phones and laptops aren’t allowed in some spas to keep the atmosphere stress-free, so be aware you may be asked to turn your phone off or put it on silent. You may also be asked to use them in certain areas only.

Also remember to bring your favourite reading material such as magazines and quick novels and some music. Don’t worry if you forget, Spas will provide magazines, newspapers and healthy living books.

•    Jump in
Pack at least two swimsuits to wear for swimming and saunas. Bring a one-piece suit for easy movements in the pool and a bikini version for tanning and treatments.

•    On the move
Be prepared for relaxation activities and exercise sessions, such as yoga. You should bring a number of workout clothes that make it easy for you to move around and stretch.

•    Cool off
If your spa destination is somewhere nice and hot you should bring loose-fitting lightweight clothes. Think about bringing light coloured cotton and linen clothes. Bring a good Jacket just incase.

•    Cosmetics
Be minimal; leave most of your cosmetics at home. You don’t need most of your hair products and lotions at home because the spa should provide them. Remember you are trying to cleanse so don’t bring too much make up but do bring the toiletries you will need.

•    Footwear
Most resort spas will provide sandals for you to wear around the spa and when using the spa facilities, but you can make things easier by bringing your own. Sandals and flats during your spa time. You will be going barefoot for many of the spas activities, so leave the heavy shoes behind. The best option is flip- flops they are light and waterproof.

•    Sleepwear
Even though you’ll be spending most of your time in a robe or wearing loose-fitting clothing by day, you’ll need some comfortable sleepwear to keep you cool and relaxed by night. Stick with loose-fitting sleepwear, think nightgowns, shorts and t-shirt for a good night’s rest.
