Alta Valtellina - Livigno, Bormio, Santa Caterina

The Ski Area

Alta Valtellina ski area includes the following ski resorts:

Santa Caterina Valfurva (2000m)

Did you know? Santa Caterina is famed for it's world class cross country ski events and also for being home to Deborah Compagnoni, one of Italy's finest skiers. You can actually stay in the hotel owned by her family in Santa Caterina.

Bormio (3000m)

Did you know? Bormio is also home to the breathtaking Bormio Terme Spa Centre where you can let the thermal waters of the natural springs heal any aches or pains after a day on the slopes.

Livigno (1800m to 3000m)

Livigno is one of the largest and highest ski areas in the Alta Valtellina Region. It offers excellent intermediate skiing and it is also very close to St Moritz. There is access to over 110km of pisted ski runs.

Valdidentro/San Colombano

Most popular for cross country ski.

A local ski bus service runs between the various ski resorts.

Location

Alta Valtellina is on the edge of the incredibly beautiful Stelvio National Park, in the Italian Alps and is one of Europe's largest nature reserves making it a wonderful place for Summer and Winter activity holidays.

The area is located approximately:

- 150km from Orio al Serio airport (Milan Bergamo)
- 235km from Milan Malpensa airport

Alta Valtellina ski area includes the following ski resorts: Santa Caterina Valfurva; Bormio; Valdidentro/San Colombano; Livigno 

Although you can't ski between all of the resorts, a ski bus joins the all the villages at the bottom of the slopes which are all within 30 mins of each other giving you the opportunity to ski the various locations on different days of your trip.

 

Aprés Ski

Alta Valtellina - Livigno, Bormio, Santa Caterina

Livigno has a duty free status which extends to the buzzing nightlife where cocktails are the most popular order of the day.

There is a great choice of establishments including video bars, karaoke bars and discotheques.

Bormio has a good selection of live bars and restaurants.  Why not check out Mozart tearoom where you can enjoy classical music or jazz.

Santa Caterina is one of the more subdued resorts in the area with most of the night life centred on the hotel bars.  There are a number of activities arranged by the local tourist board during the week. For example a weekly torchlit downhill ski run.
