Kitzbuhel is one of the big resorts in Europe. It is a large attractive resort and has a medieval town centre. The beautiful walled medieval centre is traffic free and has a quaint church and cobbled streets.
The slopes are divided into five areas, but the two biggest are at last linked by the new 30 person gondola. The Hahnenkamm Pengelstein sector is by far the largest. The Kitsbuheler Hoen is accessed by a gondola starting close to the railway station, some way from the centre. There is floodlit skiing on Thursday and Friday on Gaisberg, a small area of slopes at Kirchberg.
There is a half-pipe with a music system, a terrain park and a boarder cross course on the kitzbuheler Horn. Cross-country is plentiful but low. There are nearly 40km/25 miles of trails.
Kitzbuhel's slopes have one of the lowest average heights in the Alps. The expansion of snowmaking in recent years has improved in recent years-major runs are covered.
Skiing for experts is mostly concentrated around the bowl of Ehrenbachgraben. The most direct of these are challenging mogul fields. There are a lot of alternatives for intermediates and the Hahnenhamm area is prime terrain. The ski area is not ideal for beginners and is prone to poor snow conditions.
