Saalbach/Hinterglemm

The Ski Area

The attractive twin villages of Saalbach and neighbouring Hinterglemm boast a vast interconnecting ski circus with an unbroken network of 55 lifts and up to nine access points within the picturesque Glemm valley.  This area around Saalbach offers one of the best intergrated ski areas in Europe.

There is a good choice for beginners looking for a fun first holiday, the nursery slopes are beside the villages so you're never far from a pit stop if you need one and there are nine ski schools to choose from.

The skiing is perfect for the intermediate skier with long, wide and challenging red runs dominating the huge 200km ski area.  The whole area can be skied by the confident intermediate and is all linked for easy exploration.

Experts can head for the north-facing Zw"lferkogel which has 3km black mogul descent.  There is also 100km of off-piste terrain that you can try in the company of a local guide.

Floodlighting was recently introduced on the trails below the Unterschwarzach lift in the resort centre so that skiers and boarders can continue through from 6pm to 9.30pm each evening.

Both villages have an excellent snow record and enjoy close proximity to many of the ski lifts, ideally placed on both sides of the village.

Location

Both Saalbach and Hinterglemm are nestled at the bottom of the idyllic Austrian Glemm valley.

Only about 4km apart, both offer a fantastic base for exploring the Saalbach/Hinterglemm ski area or ski circus as it is known locally.

The nearest international airport to the resorts is Salzburg (1hr45mins)

Taxis are available from the airport to the resorts.  The next major station is Zell-am-See.  From Zell-am-See, the local "Post bus" operates from directly opposite the station every one or two hours to Saalbach Hinterglemm.  There is also a taxi rank in front of the station.

Aprés Ski

Saalbach/Hinterglemm

The  resorts combine a wide range of leisure facilities with a lively and fashionable apres ski nighlife.  The village of Saalbach is legendary for it's off the slope activities and is the larger and more cosmopolitan of the two.

It offers a charming pedestrianized village centre with stylish shops as well as numerous cafes and ice-bars.

Hinterglemm, although smaller, has a good choice of bars and cafes.  It is slightly less expensive than Saalbach, but still has a busy nighlife.
