Bernina Express Journey:

The journey starts in the small and pretty town of Tirano, after a few kilometres you will discover something amazing: the railway viaduct of Brusio, an open-air helicoidal ramp, from where you will enjoy an exceptional panoramic view. The train passes through 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and slopes of up to 70 millimetres per metre of incline along the route.  The highest point lies at 2253m above sea level at “Ospizio Bernina”. See the impressive 4000m long glacier shining in the snow, a magnificent sight.  In 2008 the section between Thusis and Tirano has been classed as a UNESCO World heritage site.  A milestone in our history.

Spend the day in the cosmopolitan resort of St. Moritz.  The resort is located at 1,856 metres above sea level in the middle of the Upper Engaldin Lake landscape.  The sun shines for an average of 322 days a year.

The Bernina Express train leaves from Tirano, Italy at approx 09.40 am and then return from St Moritz, Switzerland at 15.45.  The Bernina Express train journey takes around 2 hours 15 minutes each way. The hotel staff will provide the tickets for your journey and exact schedule. You can purchase Skylight Seats for an extra supplement of €9.00 each way. Details avaialble at the hotel. Tirano is a 15 minute drive from the Hotel.

By selecting 3 or 4 nights you can include time to visit the Alpine Valtellina area, including the famous Bormio roman Spa baths, booking for which can be done directly with the Hotel.

You will need to carry your passport with you while on the Bernina Express Train as you will go across the boarder.

Why not extend your holiday by arriving earlier and spend a night or two in Bergamo.  You can then take the panoramic train route along Lake Como to your destination.
